COMPANY NEWS
The North East blizzard of 2005…winds maxing out at 50 mph…the wind chill dropping the temperature to minus eight degrees…and then warming up to record highs just two weeks later. As the snow drifts in Central Park turn to slush and every lover in Manhattan plots a Valentine’s Day surprise, we’re looking ahead to an exciting first half of 2005.
We’re fortunate to continue our run with an amazing collection of culinary wonders from around the world this spring: from the sands of the West Coast to the foothills of the Italian Alps, the must-have cookbooks, the healthiest drink-rush since pomegranate, the biggest culinary event in New York, and that’s just the beginning.
The BIG news for New Yorkers is that after hours spent salivating over the catalog, or getting glimpses on trips to San Francisco and Seattle, the country’s preeminent kitchenware retailer, SUR LA TABLE is opening in New York City in July 2005.
As for spring cookbooks, IT’S ABOUT TIME Boston chef (hotspots Radius, Via Matta and Great Bay) Michael Schlow’s long-awaited first cookbook is being released in April. On top of that, THE WEEKEND BAKER by ABIGAIL JOHNSON DODGE is still going strong, and Publisher’s Weekly hailed it “an excellent resource for cooks of all levels”. Plus, our favorite British publisher, KYLE BOOKS, follows up the success of its fall debut with an exciting spring list.
Two East Coast chefs continue to change the way Americans view food. CHEF PATRICK O’CONNELL of five-star THE INN AT LITTLE WASHINGTON continues to build the success of his book REFINED AMERICAN CUISINE. Publisher’s Weekly was dead-on when they said “O'Connell shows the world how deep and cultivated American cuisine can be.” New York City's most loveable Upper West Side joint, GOOD ENOUGH TO EAT, and its chef and owner, the queen of comfort food, CARRIE LEVIN, are buzzing after the restaurant was named one of the “Top 10 Places to Eat Breakfast” by Bon Appetit.
Make no mistake. All things healthy are in. Off the blacklist and into American refrigerators is the new juice miracle, MAPLE LANE FARM’S BLACK CURRANT JUICE with more antioxidants than pomegranates and more vitamin C than orange juice. One of the most drinkable waters in the world, SOLÉ MINERAL WATER, graces the tables of many of America’s finest restaurants. And we’re so excited to be launching CALIFORNIA LOUIE’S, a new café on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that has created the world’s first-ever Frozen Soft-Serve Soy Dessert. It’s delicious and at 88 calories per four ounce serving, Tasti-D-Lite had better watch out.
Finally, our favorite English boy, JAMIE OLIVER, has an exciting year ahead of him. Not content to train the U.K.’s unemployed youth in his restaurant Fifteen, Jamie has turned his attention to reforming the food served in the schools of England. A new documentary will release this year and his current book, JAMIE’S DINNERS, continues to get families cooking together. Please let us know if you’re interested in review copies, samples or more information on any of these exceptional cookbooks, chefs, restaurants and products.
Best,
Caitlin & Kim
